Self reflection must be done on a macro and micro level in a teacher's career. Every lesson needs to be reflected on and adjusted for what worked and what failed. I try to do this every period. As the lesson progresses, I start thinking about which students I have coming next and how that student dynamic can change the lesson. This is a micro level adjustment because it is low level and can be done hourly. Action research living theory can be used here cyclically by figuring out your problem, brainstorming different ways to solve the problem, fixing the issue, and then brainstorming on the results of your change. On a macro level, the cycle would look a lot different. Although the steps are the same, the teacher would take a step back and look at the year as a whole and identify curricular or teaching style problems. One the problem is identified, they can brainstorm issues, and make the necessary adjustments. Then the following year, they can look back to see if the changes were positive or negative. These two uses of the action research living theory can drastically help educators grow and improve throughout their career.
