Do they indicate polarity of the ammeter as such, or do they merely show which one must be connected to the positive terminal of the cell and which one to the negative terminal of the cell. We know for sure that an ammeter must be connected in series, but the signs on the ammeter contacts seem to be a problem at this stage.
