winking. She walks over to the stove and scoops out a
bowl of stew for me. Then she pours steaming honey-
colored liquid into a mug. She places both in front of me.
"Sancocho and aguapanela for my favorite
granddaughter."
I grin and take a sip of hot aguapanela. The sugarcane
tea is sweet with a hint of lime. It warms me like a giant
hug, but it doesn't give me the inspiration I need.
She smiles at Sofi and gives her a
warm hug.
