Objectives: ​After the​ ​completion of this course the students will be able to;

1. To understand scope of epidemiology, its objectives and fundamental rules Primary and
secondary prevention methods and disease transmission mechanism.
2. Measure of occurrence of disease (morbidity and mortality.) To determine the causal
relationship, mode and source of disease, endemic, epidemic and pandemic
3. To determine incidence, prevalence, morbidity and mortality rate,
4. To apply properly study designs for causal relationship
5. To determine odd ratio, relative risk, mortality ratio, attribute risk, out breaks,
6. To understand and calculate attack rate,
7. To understanding biases and confounding and Causal inference
8. To understand Screening, its benefits and demerits

Objectives

​After the​ ​completion of this course the students will be able to:
1. To understand and create variables and data entry with organizing and displaying the data
through tables and graphs in SPSS
2. Can apply formulas for grouping the data, calculations of BMI and other variables directly by
SPSS
3. To analyze the data for descriptive statistics and to develop the hypothesis for inferential
statistics
4. To apply parametric and non-Para metric test with Chi-square test and interpret the results.
5. To understand the probability, validity, estimation, normal and standard normal distribution,
and application of sampling techniques.
6. To understand correlation, regression analysis, Cronbach’s alpha, correlation coefficient,
measure of skewness and kurtosis, coefficient of determination and KAPPA.
9. To calculate the sample size for descriptive studies.
10. To be able to read articles and critically appraise in terms of method used for statistical
tests applied and clinical applicability
11. Design experiments, collect data, analyze and interpret results.

Objectives

At the end of this module, the students should be able to:
1. Describe the overall process of designing a research project from its idea generation to its
publication
2. Identify the important steps involved in the pre-planning for research and writing
3. Understand the value of teamwork in research and dynamics of good teamwork in a
research team
4. Identify different forms of scientific misconduct, unethical authorship and to utilize the
strategies to avoid plagiarism and scientific misconduct
5. Devise a literature search strategy and perform a literature search on Medline using
appropriate keywords and Boolean Operators.
6. Define the meaning of a variable, and to be able to identify independent, dependent, and
mediating variables
7. Understand the principles of designing a questionnaire for research
8. Write a research protocol and thesis
