Wetlands and estuaries are quite similar and in fact wetlands can often times be found within estuaries. The term estuary is used to describe the area where a river or stream meets a larger body of water like a sea or an ocean. The area that is created in the delta of the river or stream is considered an estuary which are typically rich and diverse ecosystems. A wetland is a generic term that is used to describe areas of land that are at times either fully or partially covered with water creating a unique type of environment.
